A sermon by Pastor Tim Vusik from Psalm 72.
Psalm 72 is a Coronation Psalm—a petition for a righteous king to be appointed to the throne. However, the question we must ask is: who was the original subject of this prayer? While it is evident that the psalm was intended for Solomon, it is equally clear that Solomon could never fully embody the hopes expressed in this prayer. This psalm is ultimately a prayer of hope—that another royal Son of David would one day come in righteousness to establish God's Kingdom. And that hope has already been fulfilled.
Big Idea: Jesus is God’s answer to His people’s prayer for a perfect King, so praise and adore Him!
- Jesus has come as the Righteous King to bring peace and justice (1-4)
- Jesus has come as the Everlasting King to prosper His people (5-7)
- Jesus has come as the Universal King to be worshipped by all nations (8-11)
- Jesus has come as the Compassionate King to bring hope to the hopeless (12-14)
- Jesus has come as the Blessed King to bless and be blessed (15-20)
