As we come to the end of another year, it’s natural to take stock of our lives and ask whether we’ve had a successful year. But how do we measure success? The Apostle Paul gives us a rubric for doing so in 1 Thessalonians.
Big Idea: The greatest thing we can do as Christians is help others become more like Christ.
Affection: Long to Be Present with God’s People (2:17-18)
Valuation: Value People as Your Greatest Investment (2:19-20)
Action: Commit to the Perseverance of God’s People (3:1-5)

As we enter the Christmas season, we’re reminded that the One who wrote the story of creation also stepped into it. In the opening of his Gospel, John lifts our eyes above the manger and back before shepherds, before Mary and Joseph, before even the world existed. Before all this, Jesus already was.
Big Idea: Because Jesus is the eternal source of life, He came to show us the way of life.

While we can’t fully relate to their circumstances, we can still learn from the principles he gives. This text challenges us to examine our attitude and effort in the way we serve, both in our workplaces and in how we respond to those in authority over us.
Big Idea: Christians are to serve those in authority with honor so that God’s name is exalted and fellow believers are blessed.
